Electronics Use
Introduction
Welcome to Camp Mark 7 (CM7)! We are excited to have you join us for a summer filled with fun, adventure, and new friendships. To ensure a positive and inclusive experience for all campers, we have guidelines on the use of electronic devices during your stay at camp.
Purpose
The primary goal of our electronics use policy is to promote face-to-face interaction, enhance the camp community, and create an environment where campers can fully engage in the camp experience. Limiting electronic device usage fosters a sense of connection, encourages outdoor activities, and allows everyone to immerse themselves in the unique opportunities that camp offers.
Device restrictions
Campers are not allowed to possess any mobile phone or personal electronic device that has access to wifi, data service, or is able to transfer data. This includes smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, laptops, gaming consoles, and any device the Camp Director determined to be a prohibited device. If a camper is found with a personal electronic device, the item will be taken away and secured by the Camp Director. The personal device will be returned to the camper upon camp departure.
Campers who are flying to CM7 may bring their electronic devices on their journey but must turn them in to the Camp Director upon arrival. CM7 will store the device in a secure location until departure from camp.
If campers need to bring a device for specific reasons (for example, medical devices), they must obtain prior approval from the Camp Director.
Emergency communication
In case of an emergency, campers may use camp-provided communication devices (such as a video phone) with the approval of camp staff.
Emergency contact information for parents and guardians will be collected during registration.
Consequences for violation
Campers found in violation of the electronics use policy may face disciplinary actions, which may include a warning or, in extreme cases, removal from camp. The severity of consequences will be determined by a camp program director based on the nature and frequency of the violation.
Acknowledgment
By participating in a camp program at CM7, campers and their parents or guardians acknowledge and agree to comply with the electronics use policy. Please be respectful of the rules and partner with CM7 by communicating this message at home before the camper leaves for camp. This policy is designed to ensure a positive and enriching camp experience for everyone.
Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to creating lasting memories together.
Service Animal Policy
Camper and Visitor Service Animal Policy
Camp Mark 7 recognizes the importance of accommodating individuals with disabilities, including those who require the assistance of service animals. We are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible environment for all campers, staff, volunteers, and visitors. This policy is intended to ensure that individuals with disabilities can fully participate in our camp programs while respecting the rights and needs of others.
I. Definition of Service Animals
A. In New York State, service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. The tasks performed by the service animal must be directly related to the person’s disability. Other animals, including emotional support animals or therapy animals, are not considered service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and New York State law.
II. Presence of Service Animals
A. Only service animals are welcome at Camp Mark 7. Emotional support animals, therapy animals, and other pets are not permitted at Camp Mark 7.
B. Individuals with disabilities who require the assistance of a service animal are allowed to bring their service animal onto camp premises.
C. Service animals must be under the control of their handler at all times. The handler is responsible for the care and supervision of the service animal.
III. Verification
A. Campers or visitors are not required to provide documentation or proof of their disability or the training of their service animal.
B. Camp staff may only ask two questions to determine if an animal qualifies as a service animal:
1. Is the animal required because of a disability?
2. What work or task has the animal been trained to perform?
IV. Accommodations
A. Camp Mark 7 will make reasonable accommodations to allow the camper or visitor and service animal to participate in camp activities.
B. Accommodations may include providing assistance during activities or adjusting schedules as needed.
V. Health and Vaccination
A. Service animals must be in good health and up-to-date on vaccinations as required by New York State law.
B. Camp staff reserves the right to ask about the health and vaccination status of the service animal in cases where there is a concern for the safety and well-being of other campers and staff.
VI. Exclusionary Circumstances
A. Service animals may be excluded from certain camp areas or activities if their presence poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others, or if their presence fundamentally alters the nature of the camp program.
B. In cases where a service animal is excluded, Camp Mark 7 staff will work with the individual to provide reasonable alternatives to ensure their participation in camp activities.
VII. Responsibilities of the Handler
A. The handler is responsible for carrying necessary liability insurance coverage for the service animal required for medical and legal expenses.
B. The handler is responsible for the behavior and actions of the service animal and for ensuring that the service animal is in good care.
C. The handler must ensure that the service animal is well-behaved, under control, interacts well with other dogs, and does not disrupt camp activities or pose a threat to others (i.e., growling, barking, or aggressive physical posture). Handlers whose service animal does not behave appropriately are expected to cooperate if asked by camp staff to remove the animal from that immediate environment.
D. The handler is responsible for ensuring the dog is current with immunizations and has a rabies vaccination tag.
E. Any damage (i.e., property or bodily injury) caused by the service animal must be promptly reported to camp staff, and the handler is responsible for any associated costs for remediation.
Approved by the Mark Seven Foundation Board of Directors on April 12, 2024.
