DEAF PROGRAMS DIRECTOR 

Responsible to: Camp Director 

General Responsibility: Hires, supervises and evaluates program staff plans and coordinates the following programs: Staff Orientation, Youth Session, and Teen Session. 

Qualifications: Be at least 25 years old, and have a minimum of 24 weeks of administrative or supervisory experience in camping. Be Fluent in American Sign Language. First Aid and CPR certification required. Previous employment and familiarity with the mission of CM7 is preferred.

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Market CM7 Deaf programs at schools serving deaf children with the permission of Camp Director and M7DF Foundation Director. 
  • Hire personnel for Youth and Teen Sessions.
  • Help plan and conduct Staff Orientation, Youth and Teen Session. 
  • Coordinate and train counselors and campers related to the Camp Safety plan, Emergency Action Plan, and CM7 Staff Handbook.
  • Report any criminal conduct to the authorities. 
  • Ensure that the Deaf Camp Program is in compliance with the rules and regulations by the New York State Department of Health for Children’s Camps. 
  • Act as liaison between parents, campers and Camp Nurse. 
  • Keep clear and accurate activity, medical, and program records. 
  • Report any serious injury, illness or abuse to the Camp Director. 
  • Develop and implement a master schedule (daily schedules of activities and staff assignments) to be distributed before each session. Coordinate daily programs with input from counselors. 
  • Plan and facilitate special events (e.g. skits, off-property trips, etc.). 
  • Develop an on-duty and off-duty schedule for staff. 
  • Make sure there are back-up plans in case of bad weather. 
  • Arrange for guest speakers and visitors for the program. 
  • Prepare all equipment needed by counselors during the course of the day. 
  • Meet with each counselor informally on a weekly basis. 
  • Visit each activity regularly, encouraging the counselors to be innovative and creative. 
  • Conduct counselor’s and Assistant Program Director’s evaluations at the end of the Program. 
  • Maintain a high level of staff and camper morale. 
  • Adhere to the Camp Mark 7 Staff Handbook.
